"This is a good monitor for the money - Mac users need adapter" 2009-12-19
By Explorer Ed
I bought a 20' Samsung HDTV and really like it but decided it wasn't large enough to view spreadsheets, webpages, etc at the same time. So I then was looking at either the 24" Samsung with the 20,000-1 refresh(not HDTV) but since I'm mostly using this for a work monitor I went with the larger 25.5 screen at 10,000-1. The extra size makes a significant difference in additional screen size. I'm happy with the quality and like to know that if I want to stream, watch a video/plug in cable, this becomes a TV. If you use a mac don't forget that you may need a DVI adapter to plug in the monitor to the monitor port on your mac. I got a surprise when I first received it and couldn't use it. The adapter is something you either have to order or go to a mac store. You probably won't find at the box store electronic places. Good collection of ports on the back.

I am becoming a huge fan of Samsung. This is my 3rd TV purchase of Samsung this year. As far as the TV part goes, it is a super picture. Easy to setup, navigate, and use. But as for a computer monitor, it is just OK. The size is wonderful, but the resolution is not near what I had expected. I have better resolution on my Samsung Syncmaster 206BW monitor by far. I have gone through the ColorPro wizard a few times, but that did not help. I have a the NVIDIA GFORCE 9600 GT graphics card that produces great output. If anyone has any suggestions on how to make this work better with my card, please feel free to tell me. For the overall rating, I would give it 6 out of 10. If I can get the monitor resolution to be even close to the monitor it replaced, I will change it to a 10!

This monitor coupled with a Macmini which doubles as a DVD player and ---voila! Same dazzling display as the new big imac at 1/2 the price. Switches with one button to the TV and back. Samsung picture is the highest quality on the market.

 "SHAME on SAMSUNG !" 2009-12-13

We would like to have known BEFORE we purchased this product that the install CD does NOT work with any browser except microsoft Internet Explorer which we DO NOT USE.

Because the install CD doesn't work with our Firefox browser, we were directed to a non-automatic, manual install. PROBLEM - The non-automatic install makes you choose from four different software installations -- but does NOT explain why we should choose one over the other. We expect the install program to make those decisions !!

Because Samsung fails to provide auto install for anyone who does not use microsoft internet explorer, then Samsung needs to explain the difference among the 4 choices so we can at least make an educated guess as to which option to install.

We are VERY DISAPPOINTED in Samsung and hate to see Samsung trying to force feed us microsoft internet explorer by giving no other install option.

The monitor/TV is being returned. Thank goodness we tried to install the monitor/TV before Christmas and found out about this crap -- because we also purchased two Samsung LCD televisions for gifts -- a 40" and a 47" -- but they are going back to the store too and we will buy two TV's of a different brand than Samsung.

We won't be buying anymore Samsung products because we don't do business with a company who is in bed with microsoft and tries to force us to use internet explorer. Shame on Samsung!

 "WOW!!!!" 2009-12-12

This is just plain one of the best deals on the planet - I lovvvve this monitor/TV! It's got great brightness, contrast, color gamut, no color-banding (i.e., gradients are smoooooth), just fits under my desk credenza (about 20 inches from desktop to bottom of upper shelf support) while sitting on the very easy-to-pivot rotating lazy-Susan base (no Susans were harmed in the production of this review! :) and it's a 1080p HDTV, to boot!

We're upgrading all of our lab's 19-inch LCD monitors at work to these - at $280, why not? It will be nice when an LED backlit version comes out, but, I suspect that's why this is now $280 - gotta do something with those mercury-vapor backlights when this becomes unusable (I can't say obsolete - I mean, it's a damned great 1080p HDTV, and just works out-of-the-box with all of our PCs and Macs at their max resolutions, and then some).

Yes, PIP and more remote control buttons would be nice, but, that's what computer windows are for (of course, not all of the TV content will be available, much less in 1080p, or anything even approaching that, from most Internet sources, and low-bandwidth Jerkyvision isn't much fun, no matter how nice your monitor is). I mean, it _is_ $280 - a backlit remote would also be great, but, I don't expect anything like that for $280, especially given everything else about this great product.

None of us will know what the long-term reliability/serviceability of this device will be for probably years from now - remember to update your review with your mileage, then!

I highly recommend this product to anyone who has $280 (or, even a lot more) to spend on a 25.5-inch LCD HDTV/monitor. Did I say that this awesome display is $280???
